Breaking News: Finally PDP’s Last Lawmaker, Randa, Dumps Party for ADC

By Fahad Muhammad Galadanchi

Hon. Abdullahi Muhammad Randa, the last lawmaker of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, representing Tureta Constituency has defected to the African Democratic Congress.

The development was announced during plenary on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, by the Speaker, Hon.Tukur Bala Bodinga, who read Randa’s letter of defection before the House.

In the letter, the Tureta Constituency representative attributed his decision to the lingering internal crisis within the PDP, citing provisions of Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to justify his move.

Randa had earlier stayed away when other PDP lawmakers defected en masse to the ADC last week, fueling speculation about his next political step.

His eventual defection is seen as a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, effectively leaving the PDP without representation in the Assembly and reinforcing the growing influence of the ADC ahead of the 2027general elections

The move is also believed to have clarified uncertainties surrounding his political future following days of intense speculation.
