INEC Suspends Recognition of Warring ADC Factions Amid Leadership Crisis

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will no longer recognise or engage with any faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the group led by David Mark and that of Nafiu Bala.

According to a statement issued by the commission’s Chairman of Information and Voter Education, Mohammed Kudu, the decision follows INEC’s review of a recent judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal on March 12, 2026.

INEC stated that it will suspend all forms of interaction with both factions, including refusing to accept official correspondences and declining to monitor any party activities such as meetings, congresses, or conventions.

The commission emphasized that this position will remain in effect pending the final determination of the dispute currently before the Federal High Court.

In addition, the electoral body disclosed that it will remove the name of David Mark from its official portal as part of measures to maintain neutrality in the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.

The internal dispute within the ADC stems from a legal challenge filed by Nafiu Bala, a former national vice chairman of the party, who is contesting the legitimacy of the caretaker committee led by David Mark.
