Sokoto Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare
The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all residents have access to quality healthcare services, regardless of limitations in facilities or manpower.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto made this known at the opening of the 113th meeting of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Teaching Hospitals, Medical Centres, and Specialist Hospitals, held at Sokoto Guest Inn.
The Governor noted that the health sector remains a key priority under his administration’s NinePoint Smart Agenda. He added that the government has strengthened collaboration with key health institutions through a Memorandum of Understanding, allowing consultants and senior registrars to provide services at the state specialist hospital.
Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, the Governor urged participants to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their duties.
In his remarks, the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, represented by Dr. Isola Adeboke, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving healthcare through increased funding and human resource development. He also encouraged participants to engage in meaningful discussions for better outcomes.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Abubakar Wurno, commended ongoing partnerships with federal health institutions.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria, Professor Sa’ad Ahmad, said the meeting aims to enhance knowledge sharing to improve public health, while urging stakeholders to intensify efforts.
Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by Dr. Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, called on health workers to redouble their efforts, assuring them of traditional institutions’ support.
