Sokoto Gov’t Backs New Police Commissioner on Insecurity

The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its determination to curb insecurity, declaring full support for the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, in ongoing efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and related crimes.

Speaking in a statement released on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman, described Shaffa’s deployment as a well timed intervention aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture and sustaining recent progress.

According to Usman, the government is committed to working hand-in-hand with the new police commissioner to enhance security operations and ensure the safety of residents across the state.

He expressed optimism that Shaffa’s leadership would reinvigorate security personnel and deliver improved results in the fight against criminality.
The government also charged the commissioner to deepen intelligence gathering, promote community policing, and intensify pressure on criminal groups operating within the state.

While acknowledging strides made so far, Usman noted that security challenges persist and require continued collective action. He assured that the state would keep providing logistical support and a conducive environment for security agencies to succeed.

The statement further praised the outgoing Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa now promoted to Assistant Inspector-General—for his dedication and role in strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

Reaffirming its zerotolerance stance on crime, the government urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible information, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective effort.
