Tambuwal Not Defecting to APC, Media Office Dismisses Rumours

By Nafiu Muhammad Lema

The media office of Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the former Sokoto State governor is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, the AWT Media Office described the reports as false and baseless, insisting that Tambuwal has no intention of joining the ruling party.

The statement, signed by Prince Daniel, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the senator, urged the public to disregard the speculation surrounding Tambuwal’s political future.

According to the media office, Tambuwal maintains longstanding relationships with politicians across party lines, describing such connections as a reflection of his years of public service and mutual respect rather than an indication of a possible political realignment.

It also dismissed photographs and video clips circulating online as insufficient evidence of any plan by the senator to leave the ADC.

“Political civility is no proof of political realignment,” the statement said, adding that exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another political party does not amount to negotiations to change political allegiance.

The statement reaffirmed Tambuwal’s commitment to the ADC, stating that his priority remains strengthening the party, fostering broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It further argued that public discourse should focus on the country’s pressing economic, security and governance challenges rather than what it described as unfounded political speculation.

The statement also called on supporters and members of the public to remain focused on the task ahead, maintaining that Tambuwal remains committed to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians.

The media office urged media organisations and social media commentators to verify information concerning the senator with its office before publication, warning against presenting speculation as established fact.
