Angry youths have reportedly attacked the convoy of Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mani Mummuni, in Gwashi community, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, in protest against persistent bandit attacks and kidnappings in the area.

According to sources, the youths blocked roads leading into the community, destroyed vehicles in the Deputy Governor’s entourage and set tyres ablaze to express their frustration over worsening insecurity and restrictions on farming and other economic activities.

Residents of Gwashi and other communities across Zamfara State continue to face security challenges, with some reportedly forced to pay levies to bandits to gain access to their farmlands.

Reacting to the incident, a resident, Dahiru Samaila Mafara, called on the Zamfara State and Federal Governments to urgently address insecurity and growing public frustration.

Mafara said the incident raised concerns about public confidence in government and the safety of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He questioned how politicians would campaign and solicit votes in communities where residents continued to grapple with insecurity, stressing the need for authorities to address the grievances of affected populations.

He also expressed concern over the security situation on major highways across the state, citing routes linking Gusau with Anka, Talata Mafara and Kaura Namoda, as well as roads connecting Kaura Namoda with Shinkafi and Zurmi, and Mayanchi with Gummi.

The resident warned that failure to address the concerns of affected communities could further deepen public anger.

He urged the state and federal authorities to strengthen security operations, protect lives and property, and restore public confidence in the government’s ability to tackle banditry across Zamfara State.
