Sokoto to Host 15th National Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development

Sokoto State is set to host the 15th Meeting of the National Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development from October 12 to 16 2026, with the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma expected to lead stakeholders to the state.
The meeting, with the theme, “Strengthening Mortgage, Land and Institutional Systems for Accelerated and Inclusive Housing Delivery” will bring together key stakeholders from the housing, land and urban development sectors to deliberate on issues affecting housing delivery across the country.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Badamasi Haiba, FSCA, MNIPR, the meeting will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss land administration, housing finance, mortgage systems, institutional reforms and other challenges confronting the sector.
The Council is expected to attract Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries responsible for Housing and Urban Development from the states, General Managers and Chief Executive Officers of Housing Corporations, State Surveyor-Generals, professionals, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders in the built environment.
The annual meeting will also provide an opportunity for the Federal Government, state governments and other stakeholders to review developments in the housing sector, exchange experiences and identify areas requiring stronger collaboration and coordinated action.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, is also expected to participate in the meeting.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, said the Council meeting was in line with the Ministry’s efforts to promote sustainable housing delivery and strengthen the institutional framework supporting the sector.
The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto,, is scheduled to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
The National Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development serves as a platform for policy coordination between the Federal Government and the states on land administration, housing delivery, urban development and access to housing finance.
The Ministry said it expects the meeting to produce practical strategies capable of strengthening the sector and accelerating access to affordable, sustainable and inclusive housing nationwide.
