Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has congratulated members of the newly constituted African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, describing its composition as thoughtful and inclusive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by his Media Office on Thursday, September 24, Tambuwal commended the party’s leadership under Senator David Mark for bringing together individuals with diverse experiences in public service, politics, policy, administration and grassroots mobilisation.

He particularly congratulated former Edo State Governor John Odigie-Oyegun, Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Board; Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, Chairman of the National Campaign Council; former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Deputy Chairman; and Senator Austin Akobundu, Director-General and Campaign Manager.

Tambuwal described their appointments as a call to service, stressing that fairness, inclusion and national balance must remain central to the ADC’s political activities.

According to him, the responsibility entrusted to the campaign leadership goes beyond individual recognition and requires collective efforts to strengthen the party’s structures and engage Nigerians across the country.

He urged party members to close ranks, intensify grassroots mobilisation and communicate the ADC’s message to Nigerians across all regions and communities.

Reaffirming his commitment to the party, Tambuwal expressed confidence in its presidential ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

“I remain fully committed to our party and our collective effort to rescue Nigeria and build a country that works for all its citizens. I am confident that the Atiku/Amaechi ticket will rescue Nigeria and provide the leadership required to address the challenges confronting our nation,” he said.

Tambuwal had earlier responded to reports suggesting that he would be appointed Director-General of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, arguing that the position should go to a party leader from another region.

He explained that with both the party’s National Chairman and presidential candidate coming from northern Nigeria, appointing a campaign director-general from another region would promote fairness, national balance and political inclusiveness.

The former governor maintained that the ADC must demonstrate through its internal decisions the principles of inclusion it advocates for Nigeria.

Tambuwal, who was also named among the campaign’s senior advisers, wished the newly appointed council members wisdom, unity and success in carrying out their responsibilities.

The council, unveiled on Thursday, will coordinate the Atiku/Amaechi presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
