Sultan Declares Sunday as First Day of Rabi’u Assani 1448AH

The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee, has announced that Sunday, September 13, 2026, will mark the first day of Rabi’u Assani 1448AH.
The announcement was contained in a press statement signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto.
According to the statement, the committee did not receive any report from the various moonsighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the crescent of Rabi’u Assani 1448AH on Friday, September 11, corresponding to 29th Rabi’u Awwal 1448AH.
The statement consequently declared Saturday, September 12, as the 30th day of Rabi’u Awwal 1448AH.
It added that His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), accepted the report and accordingly declared Sunday, September 13, as the first day of Rabi’u Assani 1448AH.
The Sultanate Council urged Muslims to take note of the declaration as the new Islamic month begins on Sunday.
