Shettima Directs Nationwide Rollout Plan for National Emergency Number 112

Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed stakeholders and relevant government agencies to develop a comprehensive operational roadmap for the nationwide rollout of Nigeria’s National Emergency Number 112.
Shettima gave the directive while chairing a stakeholders’ meeting on the National Emergency Number 112 Project earlier today at his office in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President said the initiative was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s emergency response system and ensuring that citizens can access critical emergency services through a unified national number.
Following the meeting, a committee comprising the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies was constituted to finalise the operational roadmap.
The committee is also expected to develop standard operating procedures to guide the implementation and coordination of emergency response services under the 112 system.
According to Shettima, the completed roadmap and standard operating procedures will be presented for formal endorsement by the National Economic Council (NEC), paving the way for the formal nationwide rollout of the emergency number.
The initiative is expected to improve coordination among emergency-response agencies and provide Nigerians with a more accessible and efficient channel for seeking assistance during emergencies.
