Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has received the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West region from the Daily Times Nigeria as part of activities marking the newspaper’s centenary anniversary.

Governor Lawal received the award on Thursday at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards held in Abuja, where he was recognised for his leadership, public service and contribution to national development.

Chairman of the Times Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said Lawal emerged as the recipient after securing the highest number of nominations and votes in the North-West category.

According to Okusaga, the governor’s selection was subsequently confirmed by the Times Heroes Award Council and other stakeholders in recognition of his leadership and public service.

The award formed part of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Daily Times, which was first published in 1926 and has documented major political, economic, social and cultural developments in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the Daily Times Board, management and organising committee, the Times Heroes Award Council, as well as Nigerians who supported his nomination.

He said the honour would further strengthen his commitment to promoting good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.

Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the event included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.

The Daily Times also announced that recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards would be featured in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book, a commemorative publication documenting individuals, institutions and achievements that have shaped Nigeria’s development.
