Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has commended Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, for his commitment to infrastructural development, urging other state governors to understudy his administration’s achievements.
Sule spoke on Wednesday in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State while commissioning the Silame Bridge, a project executed by the Sokoto State Government at a cost of over N2.2 billion.
The Nasarawa governor also commissioned the 14 kilometre Garin Magaji-Gittarana Rural Road constructed by the state government.
Sule described the people of Sokoto as fortunate to have Aliyu as their governor, praising him for what he called his humility, hard work and respect for the people.
“Let me tell the people of Sokoto that you are very lucky, very lucky, very lucky to have this as your governor.
“All the work he has done with humility, with pure hard work, with respect” he said.
According to Sule, the projects are particularly important because Sokoto and Nasarawa share an agrarian economy, with a large population depending on farming and rural trade.
He said improved road networks and bridges would make it easier for farmers to transport their produce, access markets and connect with other communities.
“The President wants us to make sure we make impact, especially at the rural communities. Sokoto, just like Nasarawa, is an agrarian state.
“You have a lot of farmers here. Most of these farmers have difficulties” Sule added.
The governor said he had been expected in Kaduna to inspect another project but chose to attend the Sokoto commissioning ceremony after receiving Aliyu’s invitation, citing the mutual respect between the two governors.
He congratulated Aliyu for the projects and said the achievements had brought pride to the people of Sokoto and aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development agenda.
In his remarks, Governor Aliyu said the completion of the bridge and road reflected his administration’s determination to execute projects capable of improving the lives of residents.
He said the rural road would reduce travel time, improve road safety, ease movement and stimulate commercial activities within the area and neighbouring communities.
Aliyu added that the projects would strengthen connectivity and contribute to the socio-economic development of communities in the area.
He commended the Sokoto State Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Deputy Governor, as well as the contractor for the quality execution of the projects.
The governor also appreciated residents and community leaders in Silame for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.
He urged residents and other beneficiaries to protect and maintain the projects to ensure they serve present and future generations.
Aliyu thanked President Tinubu for his infrastructure and transformative agenda, which he said was aimed at accelerating development across the country.
Other dignitaries at the event included representatives of the Nasarawa State APC leadership, members of the State Working Committee, the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Chief of Staff and Chairman of Silame Local Government Council, as well as their counterparts from Sokoto State.
