Tambuwal Celebrates Sultan at 70, Hails His Wisdom, Service and Commitment to National Unity

Former Sokoto State Governor and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, mni, on his 70th birthday.

Tambuwal, in a message shared on his X account on Monday, described the milestone as a celebration of the Sultan’s life of service, discipline, faith, wisdom and commitment to peace and national unity.

He said the Sultan’s journey from a distinguished military career to his leadership of the Sokoto Caliphate had demonstrated that genuine leadership was rooted in service to humanity.

“Seventy years is an important milestone, but in the life of His Eminence, it represents much more than the passage of time. It is a celebration of a remarkable journey defined by service, discipline, wisdom, faith and an abiding commitment to the peace and unity of our country,” Tambuwal said.

The former Speaker commended the Sultan for the dignity, humility and uncommon wisdom with which he has discharged the responsibilities of his office, particularly during critical moments in the nation’s history.

According to him, the monarch has consistently promoted moderation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence while using his position to foster understanding among Nigerians across religious, ethnic and regional divides.

“As Sultan, he has carried the enormous responsibilities of the throne with dignity, humility and uncommon wisdom. At critical moments in our national life, his voice has remained one of moderation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Tambuwal also praised the Sultan’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and building bridges across communities, noting that his influence and statesmanship had earned him respect beyond the Muslim Ummah.

He said the Sultanate remained deeply connected to the history, identity and heritage of the people of Sokoto, commending the monarch for preserving the dignity of the institution while using its influence to promote peace, education, development and national unity.

Tambuwal further described the Sultan’s 70th birthday as an opportunity to reflect on the values of effective leadership, particularly wisdom, restraint and moral authority.

“At 70, His Eminence stands as a reminder that leadership does not always require the loudest voice. Sometimes, its greatest power lies in wisdom, restraint, moral authority and the courage to speak for peace when division appears easier,” he stated.

The former governor joined the Muslim Ummah, the people of Sokoto State and Nigerians across the country in celebrating the Sultan, praying Almighty Allah to grant him good health, strength and wisdom for many more years of service.

He also prayed for the continued preservation of the Sultanate and for the monarch to remain a source of wise counsel and leadership to present and future generations.
