Tambuwal, Dasuki Seek Stronger Security Support for Sokoto Communities

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has met with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), to seek stronger security measures and additional resources to address persistent insecurity in parts of Sokoto State.

Tambuwal was accompanied by the member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency and Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki.

The meeting focused particularly on the security situation in Kebbe Local Government Area and Kaya community in Tambuwal Local Government Area, where residents have continued to face security challenges.

In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, Tambuwal said the delegation used the meeting to convey the concerns of affected communities directly to the Defence Minister and call for urgent intervention.

He said they requested increased security presence, additional operational resources and sustained action to protect lives and property while enabling residents to carry out their livelihoods without fear.

“We conveyed the concerns of our people and stressed the urgent need for increased security presence, additional operational resources and sustained action to protect lives and property, and enable our people to pursue their livelihoods without fear,” Tambuwal said.

According to him, the Defence Minister assured the delegation of the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling the security challenges and pledged additional resources and operational support to strengthen ongoing operations in the affected communities.

Tambuwal welcomed the assurances but stressed the need for the promised support to be translated into swift and effective action on the ground.

“We appreciate these assurances and look forward to their swift translation into action on the ground,” he said.

The former governor reaffirmed his commitment to engaging relevant authorities and pursuing further interventions aimed at restoring peace and security across communities affected by insecurity in Sokoto State.

“The security and wellbeing of our people remain paramount. We will continue to engage all relevant authorities and pursue every necessary intervention until lasting peace and security are restored to our communities,” he added.
