Sokoto Marshal Warns Motorists Against Traffic Offences, Confirms Statewide Enforcement

The Sokoto State Marshal Agency (SOSMA) has warned motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations, stressing that violators will face sanctions in accordance with the law.
The agency, in public notice signed by its Public Relations Officer, Sabirina Umar M, said the regulations have long been in force and are being enforced across Sokoto metropolis and all the 23 local government areas of the state.
According to the statement, the offences include: conversion of small honda motorcycles through replacing of its original engine with a larger one, specifically “rubber-rubber” engine, and loading goods on vehicles in a manner that violates approved safety regulation.
Others included using mobile phone while driving or riding a vehicle, motorcycle, tricycle (Keke Napep), or any other means of transportation, driving against traffic, carrying more than one passenger on a motorcycle, operating vehicle without a registration plate, covering the number plate, or using a faded or illegible plate.
When contacted by GaskiyaCast, the Deputy Commander of the Sokoto State Marshal Agency, DC Ansaru Sodangi, confirmed that the public notice was officially issued by the agency.
He said the listed regulations are backed by law and urged motorists and other road users to comply with them to avoid penalties.
Sodangi further appealed to residents to cooperate with the agency as it continues to enforce traffic and road safety regulations throughout Sokoto State.
