EFCC Clears Immigration Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap of Visa Fraud Investigation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked reports alleging that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over an alleged visa fraud scheme involving some immigration officers.
In a statement issued on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale described the reports as misleading, stressing that the anti-graft agency has “no case with the Immigration Comptroller-General.”
He further clarified that “the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.”
Oyewale explained that the commission is currently prosecuting a number of immigration officers over alleged visa racketeering at the Federal High Court, with investigations still ongoing.
He noted that “there are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court,” adding that “further investigations are ongoing, with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future.”
The EFCC also urged media organisations to verify information with the commission before publishing reports on its activities, emphasizing the need for accurate and responsible reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation.
