Sokoto United FC kept their Federation Cup dream alive on Sunday after defeating Adamawa United FC 2-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup.

The Round of 16 clash, played at the Area 3 Football Pitch in Abuja saw the Caliphate Boys produce a composed and disciplined display to overcome their opponents and move a step closer to the title.

Sokoto United took the lead in the 25th minute through Samuel Obi, who finished calmly after being played through on goal by a well-timed pass from Shattima. The goal gave the Sokoto side confidence as they controlled large periods of the first half.

Adamawa United responded with several attacking moves and looked determined to get back into the game, but Sokoto United held firm and went into the break with a slender one-goal advantage.

The second half was more competitive as Adamawa United increased the pressure in search of an equaliser. However, Sokoto United’s defence remained organised and resilient, frustrating every attempt by their opponents to find a way through.

The game was effectively settled in the 80th minute when substitute Charles Bitrus made an immediate impact. The forward unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that beat the goalkeeper and doubled Sokoto United’s lead.

Speaking after the match, the club’s Technical Adviser and Head Coach, Peter Ajeni, praised his players for their discipline and commitment.

“This victory is a result of the dedication and discipline of the players. They followed instructions, remained focused throughout the game, and deserved the result. We will continue to work hard and remain competitive as we pursue our objective of reaching the final” he said.

Samuel Obi, who scored the opening goal, also expressed gratitude to his teammates and the coaching staff for their support.
“I thank my teammates and the coaching staff for believing in me.

Their encouragement motivates me to keep improving, and I assure our supporters that more goals will come by the grace of God,” Obi said.

With the victory, Sokoto United advanced to the quarter finals, where they will face El-Kanemi Warriors FC in what is expected to be another tough encounter.
