Three Arrested Over Motorcycle Theft in Sokoto, Stolen Bikes Recovered

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle theft and receiving stolen property in the Gidan Igwai area of Sokoto State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, operatives of the Strike Force Unit acted on credible intelligence received on May 23, 2026, about suspected criminal activities in the area.

Police said the operation led officers to raid several locations, including Kano Road, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare and Gidan Man Ada, where one of the suspects, Yahuza Abubakar of Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was arrested.

During interrogation, Abubakar reportedly confessed to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle and selling it to another suspect.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Alhaji Samaila Aliyu of Gidan Igwai for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle. Police recovered the red Kasea motorcycle and another ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle from him.

The command added that Aliyu later confessed to selling the red Kasea motorcycle to Ahmed Abdullahi of the Gawon Nama area. Officers subsequently recovered the motorcycle and arrested Abdullahi.

Items recovered during the operation include one red Kasea motorcycle, one ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle and two master keys believed to have been used in carrying out the thefts.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to other motorcycle theft cases within the state.

The three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
