The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has carried out an on the spot assessment of communities affected by a devastating windstorm in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The affected communities are Nasarawa Tudu, Nasarawa Rahi, Kofar Attahiru, Danyali, Illela Takalmawa and Mai Banche, where the storm caused extensive damage to homes and other structures.

The assessment followed reports of widespread destruction and injuries resulting from the heavy windstorm.

During the exercise, NEMA officials observed that several houses had their roofs blown off, walls collapsed and living spaces severely damaged.

Although most affected families have not been completely displaced, many are currently facing difficult living conditions due to the destruction of their homes and limited resources to undertake immediate repairs.

The NEMA team interacted with community leaders and residents to determine the scale of the disaster and identify urgent humanitarian needs. Areas assessed included shelter, household items, medical assistance and other relief requirements needed to support affected families.

NEMA said the findings from the assessment would guide the provision of appropriate interventions and humanitarian assistance to victims. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to timely disaster response and efforts aimed at strengthening resilience among vulnerable communities.
