Tinubu Orders Deployment of 5,000 CCTV Cameras to Tackle Plateau Insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security chiefs and the Minister of Defence to take decisive action in apprehending those responsible for the recent killings in Jos, Plateau State.

The President gave the directive on Thursday during his visit to the state following the tragic Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, which claimed over 28 lives and left several others injured.

Addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting, Tinubu also announced plans by the Federal Government to deploy 5,000 street CCTV cameras across Plateau State. The initiative, according to him, is aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, enhancing surveillance, and enabling quicker responses to security threats.

He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in restoring peace, noting that both he and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, were elected on the promise of improving the lives of citizens, not presiding over persistent violence.

In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang described the recent attack as a temporary setback, expressing optimism that with federal support and sustained security efforts, the state would overcome its challenges.

He acknowledged the role of security agencies in foiling several attacks that often go unreported and revealed that regular security council meetings are being held to address emerging threats.

Mutfwang further noted that the insecurity in Plateau has spanned nearly three decades, affecting past administrations, but expressed confidence that the current collaboration with the Federal Government would foster unity and lasting peace.

He reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing leaders and residents towards reclaiming Plateau State’s reputation as a peaceful and tourist-friendly destination.
