NYSC Penalises 24 Corps Members in Sokoto
The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has penalised 24 corps members in Sokoto for offences including absenteeism and abscondment.
The State Coordinator, Usman Yakubu Yaro, made this known during the passing-out ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream I corps members.
He revealed that eight corps members would repeat their service year, while 16 others had their service extended as a result of various infractions.
Yaro stressed that the scheme maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, noting that acts of truancy would not be condoned under any circumstances.
Despite the sanctions he commended the majority of corps members for their commitment and service, adding that two exceptional individuals were recognised with the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Award for their impactful community development initiatives.
The award is named after the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
He also advised outgoing corps members to remain exemplary ambassadors of the scheme and to leverage the skills acquired during their service year, especially in the face of limited whitecollar job opportunities.
Yaro further appreciated the support of the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu particularly in the prompt payment of allowances, and acknowledged the continued backing of the Sultan for youth-focused programmes.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of the service year, with a renewed call for discipline, patriotism, and dedication to national service.
