Kebbi Govt Directs Political Appointees Seeking 2027 Offices to Resign by March 31

The Kebbi State Government has directed all political office holders interested in contesting the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before 31st March 2026.
The directive was contained in a circular issued from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, dated 2nd March 2026, and signed by the Director, State Executive Council, Kabiru Hassan Wasagu, for the Secretary to the State Government.
According to the circular, the directive is in line with existing laws and government regulations, aimed at ensuring full compliance with due process and the requirements guiding political participation by public office holders.
Those affected include the Chief of Staff, Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Chairmen and members of statutory commissions, heads of extra-ministerial departments and agencies, permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, and other political appointees.
The government instructed all affected officials to submit their formal resignation letters to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for necessary action.
The circular further directed all accounting officers and heads of government establishments to give the directive wide publicity for strict compliance.
The move is seen as part of early preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, ensuring that political office holders comply with legal provisions before declaring their ambitions.
