Sokoto Ex-BUA Cement Workers Seek Settlement of 25-Year-Old Unpaid Entitlements

Members of the Association of Voluntarily Disengaged Staff of BUA Cement Company, Sokoto, have appealed to the Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, to intervene in the settlement of their outstanding cement allocations dating back to 1999.
The former employees made the appeal in a letter dated October 10, 2026, addressed to the Managing Director of BUA Cement Plc, Kalambaina Road, Sokoto.
The letter, signed by the association’s Chairman, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar, and Secretary, Mr. Leonard A. Ameh, was titled “Letter of Plea for Settlement”
In the letter, the former workers explained that they were employees of the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc now BUA Cement Plc, before voluntarily disengaging from the company in August 2001.
They alleged that their cement allocations for 1999, 2000 and 2001 remained outstanding at the time of their departure and had yet to be settled, despite the passage of more than two decades.
The association said it was appealing for a peaceful resolution of the matter, noting that the prolonged delay had worsened the hardship faced by many of the affected former employees and their families.
It added that the appeal was also made on behalf of widows and orphans of deceased members, as well as elderly former workers who are bedridden with terminal illnesses and struggling to cope with their circumstances.
Abubakar said many members of the association were facing serious economic difficulties and could barely provide for their families’ basic needs while waiting for their outstanding entitlements to be paid.
The former workers urged Rabiu to use his position to facilitate the settlement of the allocations, appealing to him to consider their plight and provide relief to those affected.
They also expressed regret over any past actions that might have offended the company, seeking its understanding and willingness to resolve the matter amicably.
While praying for the continued growth and prosperity of BUA Group, the association reaffirmed its readiness to accept an out-of-court settlement or any other peaceful arrangement proposed by the company.
The former workers expressed hope that the intervention would bring a lasting resolution to the dispute and ease the difficulties faced by surviving members and the families of their deceased colleagues.
