Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Dumps PDP, Defects to Apc

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to a statement released by the Zamfara State Government.
In a press statement signed by the Director General of Media and Communication in the Governor’s Office, Nuhu Salihu Anka, the government said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, elders, and supporters across the state.
The statement made available to Gaskiya Cast and other media houses explained that the move was taken in the overriding interest of stability, progress, and sustainable development in Zamfara State. It noted that the decision also came amid what it described as prolonged internal crises, leadership disagreements, and unresolved structural challenges within the PDP at both the state and national levels.
According to the statement, Governor Lawal said his primary responsibility remains ensuring peace, security, and development in Zamfara State, stressing that aligning with the APC would provide greater unity, stability, and stronger cooperation with the Federal Government.
The final meeting leading to the decision was reportedly held at the Government House in Gusau and was coordinated by the Deputy Governor alongside senior government officials and key political stakeholders.
Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to members and supporters of the PDP for their support over the years but said current political realities made the defection necessary in the interest of effective governance.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening unity, improving security, and accelerating development in Zamfara State through collaboration with the Federal Government.
The state government also called on citizens, political leaders, and party supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the state begins what it described as a new political phase aimed at promoting unity, stability, and development.
