Police Moves to Rescue Victims of Wurno Abduction in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend suspected bandits following a latenight attack on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area, where several residents were kidnapped and others injured.
According to the Command, the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, is now a top priority, with tactical units deployed to track down the assailants. Security operatives are currently combing nearby areas, including routes leading to the Sabon Birni forest, in a bid to rescue the abducted victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer PRO, Ahmad Rufai confirmed that officers responded swiftly after receiving distress calls from the community.
“Immediately we got the report, our personnel were mobilised to the scene. Efforts are ongoing to pursue the attackers and ensure the safe return of those abducted,” he said.
Rufai added that although reports suggest several people were taken, the exact number of victims is yet to be confirmed.
“We are still verifying the details, including the number of abductees and how the incident unfolded. Updates will be provided as investigations continue,” he stated.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the village under the cover of darkness, firing gunshots that caused panic among residents, many of whom fled for safety.
“There was chaos everywhere as people ran in different directions while the gunmen moved through the village,” a resident recounted.
The police also disclosed that two individuals sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.
Authorities have since reinforced security in the area, with ongoing operations aimed at restoring calm and preventing further incidents.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid the operation.
