Dual Eid Celebrations in Kano as Sanusi Leads Durbar, Bayero Holds Separate Prayers
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday led thousands of Muslim faithful in Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Kofar Mata Eid Ground, marking the successful completion of Ramadan.
In a notable departure from long-standing tradition, the Emir walked on foot from the Gidan Rumfa palace for the Hawan Idi procession, in compliance with government-imposed restrictions on horse riding during the festivities. He followed approved routes before joining worshippers for the prayers.
The event was attended by key government officials, including Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim. However, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, was absent, reportedly observing the prayers alongside Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Addressing the congregation at Kofar Kwaru, Sanusi expressed gratitude to Allah for a peaceful Ramadan and urged residents to uphold values of patience, generosity, and discipline. He called for unity and peaceful coexistence, warning youths against engaging in violence while encouraging them to pursue education and vocational skills.
The Emir also cautioned traders against exploitative price increases and offered prayers for those affected by recent market fires. He further advised parents to instill proper moral values in their children.
Sanusi commended the administration of Governor Yusuf for its infrastructural strides and efforts to tackle thuggery, urging continued public support. He concluded with prayers for sustained peace in Kano, northern Nigeria, and for victims of the recent explosions in Borno State.
Meanwhile, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, conducted a separate Eid prayer at his Nasarawa mini-palace. The gathering attracted a large number of traditional title holders, Islamic scholars, and residents.
In his message, Bayero appreciated Allah for the Ramadan period and emphasized the importance of unity, lawful conduct, and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
Despite heightened security presence across the city, Kano residents witnessed a calm and celebratory Eid atmosphere.
