Aliyu Promises Reward for Punctual Sokoto Workers, Plans Surprise Inspections

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has announced plans to reward punctual and dedicated civil servants in Sokoto State, as part of efforts to improve discipline and efficiency in the public service.

The governor made this known while receiving state civil servants led by the Head of Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed, during a Sallah homage visit at the Government House.

According to Aliyu, a committee will soon be constituted to design the criteria and procedures for identifying and rewarding hardworking staff across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

He said the initiative became necessary due to increasing concerns over lateness and absenteeism among some workers.

“We are aware that some workers come to work whenever they want and close anytime they wish, while some do not even report to work at all,” the governor stated.

To enforce compliance, Aliyu disclosed that he would embark on unscheduled visits to MDAs to monitor adherence to civil service rules and regulations.

He also urged workers to reciprocate the welfare initiatives introduced by his administration, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining a worker-friendly government.

Earlier, the Head of Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed, commended the governor for the recent recruitment of 3,000 workers, describing it as unprecedented in the history of the Sokoto State civil service. He noted that the exercise has provided employment opportunities for many youths and brought relief to families across the state.

Ahmed further appreciated the administration for prompt salary payments, settlement of gratuities, pensions, and the restoration of monthly imprest to MDAs. He assured the governor of ongoing reforms aimed at restoring the dignity and efficiency of the civil service.

In a related development, Governor Aliyu also hosted members of the Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce, led by its President, Mu’azu Yakubu Ma’aji, who praised the administration’s urban renewal projects.

Ma’aji noted that ongoing infrastructural development would attract foreign investment and boost economic growth. He also commended the reconstruction of the burnt section of the Sokoto Central Market, describing it as a major step toward revitalizing commercial activities.

He, however, called for the revival and modernization of traditional industries such as tannery, leather processing, and knitting to enhance revenue generation.

Responding, Governor Aliyu assured the Chamber of Commerce of continuous government support toward strengthening the state’s economic base.

The engagements formed part of activities marking the Sallah celebrations in the state.
