ADC Faction Condemns Akibu Dalhatu Over Alleged Insult on Sokoto Chairman
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has strongly condemned what it described as an act of disrespect and public insult directed at its State Chairman, Umar Faruk Muhammad, by Akibu Dalhatu.
In a statement issued on March 29, 2026, by the State Publicity Secretary, Murtala Aliyu, the party said the incident occurred during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on March 25.
The party expressed disappointment over the development, noting that although the incident was regrettable, it was not entirely surprising. It accused Dalhatu ,who claims to be the Acting National Financial Secretary and is a former Commissioner for Information under the administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, of a history of unruly behavior.
According to the statement, the disagreement stemmed from efforts to resolve internal party issues in Sokoto State following the NEC meeting. While Dalhatu proposed that reconciliation be handled in Abuja, the State Chairman insisted that it would be more appropriate for the national leadership to send a delegation to Sokoto for a broader engagement with stakeholders across all levels.
The ADC alleged that the disagreement escalated into a confrontation, during which Dalhatu verbally attacked the chairman and circulated a video of the incident on social media.
The party said it is awaiting Dalhatu’s return to Sokoto to initiate appropriate disciplinary measures, adding that he is not yet fully recognized as a bona fide member of the party due to his alleged ties to another political bloc.
It also challenged Dalhatu to provide credible evidence to support his claim that the State Chairman is working as a special adviser to the ruling APC government in Sokoto.
The ADC further called on Dalhatu to retract his statements and issue a public apology to the chairman through the media, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, unity, and the preservation of democratic values within its ranks.
