Sokoto Govt Reaffirms Respect for Prophet Muhammad, Closes Musa Lukuwa Mosque

The Sokoto State Government has dissociated itself from individuals who hide under the pretext of religion to undermine or disrespect the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH, his parents, household and companions.
The government reaffirmed its respect for the Prophet Muhammad SAW, his parents, household and companions, urging residents to continue to demonstrate love and compassion towards the Prophet.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, and issued on Tuesday, September 15 2026.
The statement followed recent religious tensions in parts of the Sokoto metropolis, which the government said had prompted it to constitute a committee of Islamic scholars to examine the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.
According to the statement, the committee is expected to advise the government on appropriate measures to address the situation in the interest of the state.
The government also ordered a full investigation into the attack and killing at the Musa Lukuwa Jumu’at Mosque in Mabera area.
It further directed the closure of the mosque, identified as the scene of the incident, until further notice.
The government appealed to residents to desist from making inciting statements capable of jeopardising the peaceful coexistence for which Sokoto is known.
It assured citizens of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
